The shopping capital of the middle east, the city of gold, the adults playground, whatever you want to call it there’s no doubt that Dubai is all of these and more. Here are some of the highlights for me, in no particular order. Keep an eye out as I will have more detailed blog posts on some of these soon.
- Visit The Dubai Mall.
This is one of the largest shopping malls in the world a must for shopping lovers and haters (yes boys) alike. It has everything imaginable and so much more! As far as I could tell every shop that exists is here. Why not have a stroll around the different sections and see what tickles your fancy? If you need a break from the shopping there’s a giant aquarium, an ice rink and dancing fountains for your entertainment. Not to mention a stunning waterfall one end of the mall and countless pieces of amazing art work throughout.
- Desert day trip.
This was the highlight of my trip. A day of dune bashing, camel riding, sand boarding, henna, shisha, traditional food and dance. The day trip surpassed all expectations and is a must if you have a couple of days in Dubai.
- The Burj Khalifa.
The tallest man made structure in the world is a sight to behold, even better though is to go to the top. Everyone who travels knows that top of the world breath-taking feeling you can get from a view, a landscape, an experience when on the road. Well now you can quite literally say you have been on top of the world. Stand tall and own it!
- Bur Dubai.
This is Old Dubai and has many shopping streets and souks. It’s the place to go for the haggling over scarves, gold, bags and small bits and bobs to bring home as gifts or reminders of your trip. You can take a water taxi over the creek to get to this area which is a fast way to get there. Unfortunately the day we went there, there was a huge hail storm which meant there wasn’t the usual hustle and bustle but I still enjoyed it and would love to go back if I ever get the chance for some real haggling and shopping fun. Note: I highly recommend long trousers and to be covered up here!
- Bar 360 Jumeirah Beach Hotel.
Fabulous cocktails, amazing sunset over the sea, great view of the Burj Al Arab, it really is a little slice of paradise. Make sure to hit the bar for happy hour for half price cocktails and enjoy the sunset.
Brunch is a must do hands down! Time to get dolled up and spend three to four hours leisurely eating the finest most delicious food you will ever have. Everything is an option. We went to Latitude at Jumeirah Beach Hotel and oh my was it fabulous.
- Dubai Marina.
Enjoy a leisurely stroll around the Dubai Marina. There’s a really nice chilled out vibe and the boats are just amazing to watch. There are also boats that you can go out on for dinner which I think would be cool unfortunately I didn’t have a chance to squeeze that into my trip.
- Day trip to Abu Dhabi.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is spectacular. A place of peace, quiet and beauty. It is definitely worth the day trip from Dubai to see it.
- Vox Cinema theatre by Rhodes
Oh wow. Get yourself into this cinema for a luxury experience on a night you want to chill out and relax. It’ll be the best cinema experience you’ll ever have.
Overall, Dubai is a must see for any traveller and as it has one of the busiest airports in the world it would be easy to add it into a trip as a stopover or it makes a great standalone destination for a holiday as I did.
